Anything you send in: one POST to the API, one call to an incoming webhook URL, or one push from the CLI. Each one lands in your feed as a single event with a title, an optional emoji, a category and tags.

On Base, each project takes up to 1,000 events per calendar month (UTC). Past that, new events for that project are turned away with a 402 until the month rolls over or you move to Plus, which has no event limit. We never bill overages. Deleting events doesn't hand the allowance back.

90 days on Base and 1 year on Plus. After that, older events drop out of your feed and charts. Want to keep them longer? Export them as JSON from the CLI whenever you like, or move to Plus for the longer window.

No. Push notifications come straight through your browser, on desktop or phone. You turn them on per project, per device. On iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 or later), add Get Butters to your Home Screen first, since Safari only allows push for Home Screen web apps. Prefer ntfy? Point a project at your own ntfy topic instead.

Each incoming webhook is a secret URL for one project. Anything that can call a URL can create an event: curl -d "Backup finished" plus your URL is enough. The token is the URL, so treat it like a password and don't paste it anywhere public.

Yes. Add an outgoing webhook to a project and events marked notify go out as Slack messages, Discord messages, or signed JSON to your own endpoint. Butters keeps the full feed; Slack just gets the ones worth a ping.

Yes. Invite teammates to your organization and they see the same projects and feeds. Push notifications stay personal: each person chooses which projects notify which of their own devices.

Any time. The CLI exports your projects, events and insight cards as JSON, and can import or merge that file back in. No hostage data.

Any language that can make an HTTP request. There's also the butters CLI for scripts, cron jobs and CI. The in-app playground sends a real event and gives you the matching curl and JavaScript to copy.
